G’day, goedendag, Guten tag, bonjour, ciao or basically, hello everyone. It has been a fair few months since I dropped into Forty8.de, but after just spending a month in Europe on my honeymoon and seeing many parts of Europe, I thought I should come back to Forty8.de and say G’day!
Since last time, a lot has happened in my life. I’m healed up from my collarbone surgery and back on the bike. I’ve been riding shows, making video’s and then in July I married my long-time girlfriend Rachael. We then spent the next month over July/August in Europe and the UK on our honeymoon.
Rachael comes from England and moved to Australia when she was young, but she still has lots of family back in the UK. So the plan was to visit her family, while also going on a cool tour of Europe. We visited Amsterdam, St. Goar on the Rhine Valley, Munich (best place!!), Hopfgarten in Austria, Venice, Rome, Florence, Lucerne and finally Paris before we headed back to London and travelled around the country side of England.
I’d only ever been to Belgium in Europe when I was there last year and hanging out with Jimmy and the boys from FMX4Ever. So it was awesome to see a lot more of Europe and especially Germany impressed me. Maybe because my family heritage is German (well, the surname Sommerfeld gives it away) but I thought Germany rocked. We had the best night at Hofbrauhaus in Munich. I’ve never seen beer steins that size before, and even the women who could carry 9 or 10 of those at a time!
I was lucky to work the trip in so I could also go to London for Red Bull X-Fighters too. Even though the event was rained out, it was great to see the best riders in the world make the course look too easy.
I have also been really busy with riding back home and one of my new sponsors is SportsCamera.com.au. It’s a business that sells helmet and action camera’s. So myself and Schuie are able to record everything we do and have come up with some cool little video’s that’s shot only on helmet cam’s. We’re trying to come up with new ideas and angles to try and keep the feel of a helmet cam video interesting.
I’m now getting ready for 7 weeks of shows in Indonesia, a country made up of many islands just above Australia. I’ve been busy organising the Freestyle riders for it, and we’re even putting on a competition at the last show in Bali which should be great for the local area. I rode these shows last year with Josh Sheehan and Clinton Moore, and it’s great to have been invited back. Sheeny will join us again and it’ll be cool to go on tour again.
