I can‘t believe how fast the time is running! So it is really about time to hook you up with some updates! Here we go... After the last news I had a great show in Kulmbach with my Upforce buddies Fab and Tim in front of over 40.000 spectators over the weekend! After moving from Berlin to Cologne in the end of April I started May with a nice show at the local MX race in Wriezen with Kai Haase and Dennis Garhammer. And we started our Upforce Facebook fansite at www.facebook.com/upforcefmx, so check it out and become our friend! In May the second tourstop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour was held directly in front of the famous Sphynx in Egypt. I was part of it as FMX expert for Servus TV. You can check the show here. The location was unbelievable and the riding insane. You better check it out!
The week after I kept working the TV side of life as host for Sport1 „Bike“ magazine and tested my roadracing skills at the Spreewaldring to show how to legally ride roadracing. At www.sport1.de in the videoplayer under „Motorsport/Bike“ you can find all the videos of the show. In the end of May it was time for the yearly show at the ixs Dirtmasters Festival, Europes biggest Mountainbike festival, in Winterberg. This year the show was presented by Suzuki, so Kai Haase, our guestrider Mike Plümacher (normally a MTB pro, but getting his feet wet in FMX very well) and myself impressed the more than 40.000 spectators over the 4 days with a nice
show during the VANS Rocknight. And I also took part in the MTB Slopestyle competition on my Specialized dirtjump MTB. After celebrating my 33rd birthday in the beginning of June it was time for anothert episode of Sport1 „Bike“ magazine, this time we headed north for some Enduroriding school with my old friend and coach Dirk von Zitzewitz (who happens to have won the Dakar Rallye last year in his VW Touareg). Riding with Dirk and his nephew Davide was a lot of fun. I finished the day by inventing a new trick: Scrub-to-Superman/landing !!! When I scrubbed of the edge of a takeoff my footpeg got caught and the energy threw my feet up in the air. I am convinced that only my 9 O‘Clock-skills saved me. See, FMX is also good for racing... HAHA!
The next show experienced some bad luck. After having a perfect dirlanding shaped by the dudes at Reifen Göring and a nice practice session the rain started and never stopped. We had to cancel all the shows because it did not stop to rain at all! Strangely 1 hour after the event was over the sun came out and we could have jumped easily! Big bummer! The following weekend I took over in my role as teammanger of the Suzuki Upforce FMX team and took care of the boys during the first round of the German FMX championships. Dennis had to sit out due to a shoulder injury, but Fab took over in fashion as he easily won the competition. Kai Haase had high hopes to finish well since he had just learned the big gap flip.
In his final run he threw it for the first time to dirt, succesfully of course. But due to some upcoming strong wind, the final got cancelled and the qualifying results counted, in which he had a dead sailor and did not throw the flip. But anyway, the boys did well and represented well. With Kai stepping it up so much it shows that the effort is pushing the boys in the right direction, even if the results on paper don‘t show the whole story... After another epic Red Bull X-Fighters in Moscow and another TV job for me (check for the show) it was finally time again for me to ride a show.
In the beginning of July the swatch Free4Style was held in Estavayer-le-lac, an idyllic little town near Mat Rebeauds hometown in Switzerland. The event had some great riding with the likes of Mat himself, Levi Sherwood, Lance Coury, style-legend Drake McElroy, Nick De Wit, Thamer Engeli, Jimmy Verburgh and myself. Also the whole atmosphere at the lake and with all the other sports like Wakeboard, Jetski and Sketboarding and the laid back partys is great every year, so make sure to check it out next year!
Last weekend we had open house day at my hometown MX track in Schenkenhorst, which meant another hot FMX show with Kai Haase, Mike Plümacher, myself and 11 year old Willy Huschmann on his 85 cc Suzuki, who is already ripping the ramps at 15 meters. Future here we are! And the show was hot indeed, since it had temperatures of 38°C!!! Next on my schedule is another TV gig with Servus TV at the next Red Bull X-Fighters stop in Madrid, one of the best events ever to go and watch. Straight after Madrid I am guest of Martin Korens Horsefeathers FMX Jam in Prague, which always means a good time riding with my buddies. So I will keep you updated on this!
Ride on
