M2S Agency, Inc. press release | Oct. 2007 |
2007 has been a challenging year for Mat Rebeaud.
After recovering from a broken femur late last year Rebeaud returned in 07 close to the top of the game and had flashes of brilliance with two 2nd place finishes and a 2nd overall in the Red Bull X Fighters Series. Unfortunately the likeable Swiss rider broke a metacarpal in his hand three weeks before X Games which limited his training and mobility going into X and saw him riding with a metal plate in his hand to secure the fracture. Always a fighter he worked hard at X Games to but narrowly missed the mark when he finished one place out of the medals in Best Trick and one spot out of the final round qualification for Freestyle. After X Games he returned to Switzerland and his training facility there and went to work.
His next big event was freestyle.ch on September 22nd in Zurich Switzerland which saw him take a victory in front of a home crowd of 40,000+ spectators against some of the best freestyle riders in Europe.
From there he hopped on a plane and headed for America and the LG Action Sports FMX World Championship in Pomona, CA on September 29th. Finishing 3rd in the qualification round Rebeaud was pitted against the promising young rider Myles Richmond in the first round of head to head competition. Mat secured a victory and moved into the semi final round where he faced some stiff opposition in the form of Mike Mason. In classic Rebeaud fashion he brought up the level of his run and moved into the final medal round with Nate Adams and Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg. Rebeaud laid down a solid run with several inverted combo tricks and strong right side up tricks as well which ultimately secured a Silver Medal for him. An elated Rebeaud had this to say, “This event is always special and all of the riders want to do well here so for me it was very important to come here and make a statement with a strong finish. I really want to end 2007 with some good results for my sponsors and have a lot of momentum for 2008”.
Next on the competition calendar for Mat Rebeaud is the AST Dew Tour Play Station Pro in Orlando, FL on October 18th-21st.
