                              | Story and pics by Oliver Franke | Basel, 24th April 2009: Only one week after the trick battle of Graz the fight for World Championship points went on. In the St. Jakobshalle Basel the Freestyle Motocross athletes met for the 5th contest of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championships. Flip machine Libor Podmol amazed spectators and judges and took the win by his new Stripper Flip in the double up. 2nd place went to Remi Bizouard ahead of Brody Wilson.

Libor Podmol wins the 1st night in Basel
The track in Basel was difficult to ride for the riders. Already in the training we saw a hard crash of William van den Putte, which took him off for the evening contest. In the qualification Swiss local hero Vivian Gantner had to kiss the dirt. And Fredrik Johansson, who crashed in Graz last week, was not able to start this day. In the qualifying Massimo Bianconcini and Fabian Bauersachs had a close fight and come equal on points. But in the end Bauersachs, Brice Izzo, Libor Podmol, Jose Miralles, Brody Wilson and Remi Bizouard made it into the final.

  Remi Bizouard

In the Whip contest Brody Wilson won ahead of Bianconcini. But the Italian reached with 8,30 meters his first ever victory in the Highest Air contest. As we saw the best Freestyle Motocross performance ever on European ground at the final of the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Graz, the final of Basel might topped that. Brice Izzo did Shaolin, Superman Seatgrab and Lazyboy Flip, Jose Miralles a 1-Hand Can Flip to Side-Saddle-Landing and Brody Wilson ruled with triple combos to No-Hand-Landings. Remi Bizouard presented his massive Cliffhanger and Ruler Flips, but even that was not enough to beat Libor Podmol this day. The Czech flip machine did Cliffhanger Flip, Cordova Flip, No-Hand-Flip, Nac Underflip, Switchblade Flip and first time ever for him a Stripper Flip in the double-up.

  Brody Wilson
In the overall ranking of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship Remi Bizouard now leads with three points ahead of Jose Miralles. Libor Podmol could climb on third position. In the manufacturers ranking Yamaha has first place with a 16 points lead to Suzuki. Next points of the World Championship will be given on Saturday at the 2nd day of the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Basel.

Basel, 25th April 2009: 2nd day at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Basel with the ultimate fight for World Championship points. Only Fredrik Johansson could not ride, cause of his injury from Graz. But both crash guys from Friday, William van den Putte and Vivian Gantner were able to ride. In a most packing final World Champ Remi Bizouard grabbed the victory on this day. Flip machine Podmol was only a few points behind ahead of trick styler Brody Wilson.

Bauersachs, Bianconcini, Peters, Ackermann and v. d. Putte
Already in the qualification the riders put the level high. Local hero Vivian Gantner amazed with some backflip combos. Freddy Peters showed a Cliffhanger flip in the double up, but had a small crash while landing it. Hannes Ackermann with some good flips ended up on 10th position. William van den Putte had a huge run at his IFMXF premier and did a most spectacular Superflip. Massimo Bianconcini was in good shape this day, too. But again Bauersachs, Brice Izzo, Libor Podmol, Jose Miralles, Brody Wilson and Remi Bizouard made it into the final.

  Fab Bauersachs
On the 2nd day Massimo Bianconcini won the Whip contest ahead of Brody Wilson and reached 1st place at the Highest Air contest with 9,50 meters. Respect for Freddy Peters, who did his first ever Step up and jumped over 7,50 meters.

  William v. d. Putte

In the Saturday final each riders was highly motivated. Germany’s Fabian Bauersachs did his first ever No-Hand-Lander, after a No-Hand-Flip. But this was just 6th position in the end. Believe it or not, Brice Izzo reached only 5th position with flip combos like No-Hand to Nac, Shaolin, Superman Seatgrab, Tsunami and Lazyboy. Again Jose Miralles did a crazy run with flip combos and landing variations. But at the moment the „new sensation“ in Freestyle is not able to reach the podium. He got 4th. Therefore the trick machine Brody Wilson is in awesome shape. The US-Boy ruled with triple combos and his amazing style. So he seems to be set for the podium and got 3rd. Flip machine Libor Podmol showed mostly hard flip combos like Cliffhanger, No-Hand, Stripper and Nac Underflip. But today Remi Bizouard could beat the Czech. He did his well-known spectacular run with his amazing style.

  Remi Bizouard
In the overall ranking of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship Remi Bizouard still leads. With seven points behind is Libor Podmol. Jose Miralles lost his top position on this weekend and fall down on 3rd place. In the manufacturers ranking Yamaha leads with 18 points ahead of Suzuki. Next points of the World Championship will be given on Saturday, May 9th at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Mannheim.
